Kaigan arranges two elementary courses a year. That is a customary practice for clubs under Finnish Judo Federation. Elementary courses are meant for all who are intrested about judo. At elementary course pupils are teached first of all how to practice judo safely. Tools for safe practice include ukemi - how to fall so that you don't hurt yourself. But judo is far more than just plain ukemi practice, you will learn at elementary course also some basic throw-, grappling- and few other tatami-techniques. Pupils who have passed the elementary course and their first belt graduation will be allowed to tie their judogis with yellow belt.

Mr. Kolehmainen will teach at least following basic tehniques:
Throw techniques: Sasae-tsuri-komi-ashi, O-soto-gari and Hiza-guruma.
Grappling techniques: Hon-gesa-gatame, Kuzure-gesa-gatame and Makura-gesa-gatame.
As mentioned earlier, ukemi is the one of the most important skills and falling exercises will be of course included to practice.

Compared judo to the another sports, it can be said that it is cheap sport to start. Elementary course is free, but you need to pay 30 € to become an member of Kaigan club. Another expence is membership fee, which has been round 50 € a year. With that you can practise at elementary course and after passing course you are free to practice in all judo training sessions which are held by Kaigan. You might be even able to practice with aikido and karate. Every elementary course pupil will also get Finnish Judo Federations booklet about judo (I belive booklet will be only available in finnish) and small pin of Kaigan. Another expence will be judogi, which cost depends mainly about the material and the purpose. As a basic refrence for price competion judogis costs more than those made solely for practice purpose. On the other hand competion judogis will endure longer and tend to feel better on. Feeling is of course an unessential point for judokas. This might tell something about competion judogis durability, one of mine has lasted seven years. Maybe I have been lately a bit lazy practisioner, but I still have that judogi ready to go. Cotton judogis for juniors cost from 20 € to up. Competion ones cost up from 100 € . Belts you will be able to buy less than 10 € . Most current prices you will find from finnish Matsuru reseller, which has a link on link page.

See you at dojo!

Ukemi - how to fall right - is the most valuable judo skill.
