Sankukai Jujutsu Karate Do

San - three (body, mind, spirit)
Ku - emptyness, harmony
Kai - school, club, group

The name karate, means "empty hand ". "Empty" meaning here that karate is basically a non-weapon self defence system and also referring to a state of mind empty of all distracting thoughts. Karate is based on a long tradition of fighting arts systematized in the island of Okinawa, south of the main islands of Japan in the beginning of the 20th century.
